When we think about vaccines, most of us don't start thinking about them until the holidays are just around the corner. As fall approaches and family gatherings, travel, and cold and flu season return, vaccines suddenly move to the top of our to-do list.
But what if this year, you got ahead of the season?
(Christmas in) July is the perfect reminder that some of the best gifts are the ones you give yourself before you need them. Summer is an ideal time to review your vaccination status, avoid the fall rush, and make sure you're protected before respiratory illnesses become more common.
Three Vaccines Worth Checking Off Your List
Pneumonia Vaccine
If you're 50 years or older, it may be time to ask about the pneumococcal vaccine.
Pneumococcal disease can cause serious infections, including pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and meningitis. Vaccination helps reduce your risk of these potentially severe illnesses.
Shingles Vaccine
If you're 50 years or older, the shingles vaccine is recommended, even if you've never had shingles.
About 1 in 3 adults will develop shingles during their lifetime. The rash can be painful, and complications such as long-lasting nerve pain can persist for months or even years.
RSV Vaccine
RSV isn't just a concern for young children.
Adults 75 years and older are recommended to receive a single dose of RSV vaccine. Adults 60โ74 years old may also benefit if they have certain chronic medical conditions or other risk factors that increase their risk for severe RSV illness.
Give Yourself the Gift of Prevention
Instead of waiting until the holiday season to think about vaccines, take a few minutes this summer to make a plan. By getting vaccinated early, you'll avoid the seasonal rush and head into fall and winter with added peace of mind.
At Powell Pharmacy, we're happy to review your vaccination history, answer your questions, and help determine which vaccines may be recommended based on your age and health history.
Because one of the best gifts you can give yourself is the gift of staying healthy.

In this episode of Intentional Living with Emlah, I sit down with Dr. Stephanie Gorka to explore how nature can boost mental health, physical health, and resilience, backed by real science. She shares findings from a statewide Ohio study showing that green spaces lower stress, strengthen immune function, and even speed up healing in hospitals. We also dig into how simple shifts, like prescribing nature as medicine or rethinking our parks and daily habits, can make a real difference. Take one small step today: step outside for 15 minutes, invite a friend for a walk, or make your next family outing an outdoor one. ๐ฟ

As a pharmacist, one of the hardest conversations I have with patients is hearing, "My doctor says everything looks fine... but I still don't feel like myself." If you're struggling with stubborn weight, low energy, poor sleep, or simply don't feel as healthy and vibrant as you want to, you're not alone. Too many people are told to "eat less and exercise more" without being given the tools, support, and guidance to create lasting change. That's why I created Revitalize. I believe weight loss...
Electrolyte packets seem to be everywhere, from the gym to the golf course to social media. But are they something everyone needs, or are they only helpful in certain situations? The answer is somewhere in the middle. Electrolytes can be an excellent tool for hydration, but they're not a replacement for water, and not everyone needs them every day. What Are Electrolytes?
